Visit to the TEIDE
National Park

El Teide is the most famous natural icon of all the Canary Islands.

We meet at 8:00 and get ready for our first visit...  and younger students from the school are all around us!!

We create a great buzz !!

El Teide is a volcano still active, located in the centre of Tenerife Island and surrounded by La Orotava Valley in the North and Vilaflor Valley in the South.

It has a crater of 80 metres and a height of 3.717 metres, so it is the highest mountain in Spain; and the only subtropical mountain of Europe. This provoques an interesting biological wealth, so, many of the animals and plants in the Park are unique.

The first important place inside the Park is the Caldera de Las Cañadas, it is like a big hole or crater of 17 kilometres surrounded by lava flows. It is 2000 metres high and there is no humidity because the Alisios winds disappear here; that's why, there is no rain on this mountain and the ground is very dry. Here is where The Teide Volcano begins to grow.

"I like El Teide because we don't have any mountains or vulcanos in the Netherlands"
Dominique
and Laura

In the Middle Age there was a very long eruption with black lava during years and it became as high as now it is. In 1798 there was a last eruption

Thanks to these special temperatures we can enjoy different sightseeings of the Teide. If you visit it in Winter it is white with snow; full of lively colours in Spring or yellow and dry in Summer.

"El Teide was very beautiful an it was a nice experience!"  Harmke
"Very beautiful! and it was a nice day!"  Lisanne
